High Winds

Last night was a long night. E started throwing up just before midnight. She came into our room saying that she was sticky (I think she meant stinky but who knows). She was excited to actually be sick. You see in October we went to visit Larry's family and his youngest brother was sick the whole time. Ever since E has tried using the excuse that she is sick to get out of things and last night she was actually sick. Aren't kids just so stinking hilarious. Anyway, on with my story, because E was puking all night and is still too young to not get it every where without any help I sent Larry downstairs to the guest room and I stayed up with little girl. Sometime it the odd hours of the morning it started blowing out side. It was so loud. Of course being cut off from the world like I am, I had no idea that we were suppose to have dangerously high winds last night and today. Larry knew but he didn't think to tell me, which was probably the best for a worrier like me. I finally went to sleep shortly after five. Sometime in between then and nine when I woke up our power turned off. When we got up and looked out the window I was surprise how windy it really was. I can't remember ever being in wind so strong and I am from the desert where high winds are common. When the winds died down shortly after noon, Larry went out and about. All the traffic lights were out so it took him a hour to go about a mile and a half and back. He said that there were huge trees uprooted all over. We came out of it in pretty good shape. We did have some shingles go flying but that was all. I kept having horrid thoughts about the ginormous tree out front uprooting and smashing the house, so I will take a few shingles. Well we spent the day without any power which was no real big deal. Ever thing in the fridge and freezer stayed cold and I took comfort in knowing that I could just put stuff in the ice chest and stick it outside because it was in the thirties outside, if the fridge warmed up too much. At about four I was starting to worry that the power wouldn't come back on before dark. That was a prospect I was not looking forward to. It was starting to get really cold in the house and my kids don't like the dark. They probably would have loved the candles I was planning on using but I knew that I would be relighting them about every second or so. Lucky for us, just before five the power started up. I got to turn on the heater and made a delicious turkey noodle soup for dinner, which beats the sandwiches that were in our future if the power failed to come back on. I feel so blessed that our day ended up very normal. It could have very easily been a crazy day. My heart goes out to those who were not as fortunate as we were.

Sewing

So over the last year and a half I have been trying to teach myself how do sew. I knew enough basics to make E and L's baby quilts. They were very basic and all just straight stitches. About the time A was born I decided to try making E a dress. I was so intimidated and decided to try it out while Larry's mom was here after A was born so I could ask her for help if I needed. It ended up being easier that I had thought it would be. I have made her two dresses and a skirt that I made up a pattern for. I also made my SIL an apron. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture before I gave it to her. It was really cute and I also made up the pattern for that one. However, the largest project I have done as late was a quilt for my mom. The star blocks were paper pieced together and then I appliqued them. They took FOREVER, but I really enjoyed making them. I really loved paper piecing because it helped them come out looking almost perfect. If any of you sew and have a chance to learn how to do it I recommend it. Anyway, the other blocks I had each of my parents grandchildren decorate a square for them. They have a lot of grand kids and there are even two missing off of that quilt and two more on the way. I was supposed to give them this quilt for Christmas last year but I had a lot come up that I wasn't planning on so it got pushed to the back burner. Well a couple of weeks I finished it with my MIL and gave it to my mom. It felt really good to get it finished. Now I just have to finish all of my other sewing projects, when I find the time and energy.

Dinosaur Park

Larry's grandparents came up to visit us this past week. We had so much fun with them and can't wait for them to come visit us again. We accomplished so much while they were here. Larry's Grandpa made us a new mantle and they installed it. I LOVE it! The one that was here when we bought the house just didn't fit. They also put in the new back door that we bought months ago. I couldn't be happier. Also while they were here went to the Eccles Dinosaur Park. We had so much fun. They had a small robotics display with a Triceratops and a T-Rex. E was a little afraid of them at first but by the end of the outing she was begging me to take her back to see them again. L had so much fun being aloud to just run without being restrained. At the end of the trip Larry's grandparents got us year passes to go back to the dinosaur park. I am so excited that they will most defiantly be used. Thanks again Grandma and Grandpa. We love you!!!

Another Wedding Cake

So I know this post is a little late but I still wanted to post it. In August I did another wedding cake for my brother-in-law's sister. Here is a picture. I know I am still learning but I had a lot of fun making this cake. It was a lot less stressful than my first one. By the way my sister Rachel did the flowers for this cake, I think that they are beautiful.

Excited!!!

We closed on our house on Friday! It came out of escrow yesterday and we should get the keys today! I am so excited! I am really bummed though because I can't go up and see it again until who knows when. Probably not until Sunday. I am in class Wednesday and Friday for most of the day and with only one car that Larry has at work it is just going to have to wait. It is also bitter sweet because now I am going to loose my husband until I finish school. Because Larry is working an hour and a half away we decided that he should just stay at the house instead of coming home everyday. This will save us a ton of money in gas. I will get to see him sunday and Monday though so it isn't all that bad. Now just to get through my last three classes at BYU. I am loving my anatomy class. This week we are learning the lower extremity muscles. I love going into the lab and studying the cadavers. Everyday is a testament that Heavenly Father knew what he was doing when he made our bodies. Even though I miss being home full time with my children I have enjoyed this time to do something for me. It makes me happier to do the grunge work at home because I miss it oddly enough. Talking about grunge work I have an apartment to clean, laundry to fold, dinner to make, kids to feed and put to bed, a paper to write, and a quiz and two tests to study for, I probably should go. I just wanted to share my good news!

Helping Others

Last night Larry and I finally watched The Blind Side. I know it has been out for forever and we have actually had it from Netflix for a couple of months. We just don't watch a lot of TV any more. Anyway, It was a really good movie. It got me thinking about what I would do if I was in the same place as Leigh Ann was. Would I help out a fellow human being who just needed someone to care. My first thought was of course. But the more I thought about it the more I realized that I probably have encountered many people in my life who could just use some kindness and instead of kindness I judged them for what I saw. Don't get me wrong, I was not mean or cruel I was just blinded by my own prejudices to see the pain and struggles they were going through. When I saw myself in this light it reminded me that I have a long way to go to becoming truly Christ like. I need to work on this. I need to be able to see people the way that my Savior sees them and to love them instead of judging them. I hope that I am able to become the person that He would have me be.

Our House

That is right Larry and I are buying a house! We are under contract with a house in Ogden, Utah. We are planning on closing May 11th. We are so excited! The house is four bedrooms, two up stairs and two down stairs. It has two baths and is a little over 2000 sq ft. I am excited for a summer with a back yard. I am hoping to find time to plant a garden. I am a little nervous though, I have only ever done pot gardens. We have been so blessed. If you haven't heard Larry has been promoted to dining room manager at the Layton Brick Oven which has enabled us to make this step.I can truly testify that the Lord blesses us when we pay our tithing, stay out of debt and follow his prophets. We have been amazingly blessed!

Baby A

So I know this post is long over due. What can I say, I am one busy mama. Once again we were very blessed to add an addition to our family. Baby A was born March 8, 2011 at 7:15 pm. She was 6 lbs 6 oz. And 18 inches. She was having some difficulty breathing so they took her straight to the NICU. I was finally able to see her between ten and eleven. I couldn't believe how small and perfect she was. She was still struggling to breath so they gave her something to clear all the mucus from her lungs and kept her on the pressurized oxygen until 2 am. She also had low blood sugar so they put a tube down her throat and gave her sugar water. After two she was breathing much better so we were finally able to hold her and got to take her to the nursery and get her all cleaned up. After that we were finally able to take her to our room. Needless to say it was a long day. We were so grateful that grandma was able to come and watch the other kids so that Larry stay with Baby A and me all night. She is such a beautiful baby. Little Man is fascinated with her and loves to give her kisses. Princess is in love. She loves to hold her and gets very concerned when Baby A is crying. Tonight she even tried to bring her to me and told me to feed her. Larry and I feel very blessed to be given children and hope that we are able to raise them as our Father in heaven would have us do.
